About the Training Series

We are pleased to invite you to attend our 2018 Ontario Training Series. This series is an experience designed to share best leadership and safety practices with businesses who desire to excel in safety.

The training series is divided into two parts/sessions – one in the spring and one in the fall. Each session is a full day designed to train managers, supervisors and employers.

Participants may select to register for one or both parts included in the series. These training sessions will not be offered via webinar because the subject matter is difficult. Our discussions, tools and tips are sensitive and intended for a live audience only.

Part 1: Managing a Healthy Workplace

Is your workplace managing psychological hazards well? With a shifted focus to the importance of workplace health and wellness, workplaces need tools to “Manage a Healthy Workplace”. Our first session does not just provide resources. It provides practical tools, advice and best practices for managers and supervisors. The WSIB is allowing claims for workplace mental stress; we need to know how to manage these claims and conduct result-orientated investigations before this impacts your businesses.

Topics that will be addressed include:

  • Mental Health
    • This discussion will focus on the following questions; What is mental stress and how do we have this conversation with our workers? What are the signs and symptoms? How do we respond? What are the tools of prevention?
  • Mental Stress Claims in Ontario
    • During this discussion, we will discuss processing these claims, handling objections, supporting documentation, return to work for mental stress tools, and general tips.
  • Wellness
    • During our healthy lunch break, join the discussion on bringing wellness into action for your workplace. Offering services is not enough; we need actions, steps and results.
  • Workplace Harassment Investigations
    • Gain insights and learn what you can and should not ask, say or assume when investigating incidents of harassment in the workplace.
  • Case Scenarios and Q&A
    • Practice the tools we learned in our sessions today and ask the difficult questions!

Part 2: Embedding Common Knowledge

We’ve all heard the phrase, common sense isn’t so common. Time to change the language to common knowledge in the workplace. Our focus for this training day is to enhance the safety processes you have; to document, train and set the expectations of safety in your workplace. The tools you will learn will lay the foundation for your due diligence defence and result in lower frequency and injury rates.

Topics that will be addressed include:

  • R.A.C.E. and the Functioning JHSC
    • This is a living process in your workplace – Learn the steps needed to ensure it is working.
  • Injury Investigations
    • Getting the results that make a difference, that effect change and improve your safety program. Your investigations need to focus on outcome.
  • Wellness
    • During our healthy lunchbreak, join the discussion on measuring the effectiveness of your wellness programs.
  • Fit for Duty
    • Set the standards for employees showing up every day, “fit for duty”. What can you expect, ask for, and how to manage employees who are no longer fit for duty?
  • Lessons from Losses
    • Are you learning from the lessons in your workplace, from the courts, from your peers? Together we will review some of the lessons employers are learning the hard way.
